Star Anise Organic Wholefoods was founded by Soulla in 2010, beginning in her home kitchen in Sydney. Raised in Queensland by Greek-Cypriot migrant parents, Soulla grew up surrounded by homemade food and hospitality, which deeply influenced her values and approach to nourishment.

Before motherhood, she worked for over a decade as a corporate lawyer. Years of long hours, stress, and a low-fat/high-grain vegetarian diet led to serious health challenges. When her first-born child, also raised a vegetarian, was hospitalised, it sparked a turning point. Soulla began researching ancestral diets and shifted her family to a nutrient-dense, traditional wholefoods lifestyle.

With no such foods readily available at the time, she began making her own organic bone broth, sauerkraut, liver pâté, kombucha, activated nuts, and slow-cooked meals from pastured animals. Her family's transformation was profound—they went from barely surviving to thriving simply by changing their diet. This experience cemented her belief in the transformative power of food as medicine.

Demand for her homemade creations grew organically through word of mouth—first from friends, then their friends—eventually leading to in person cooking classes, a retail space, and online store.

Soulla’s work now includes online cooking workshops, health coaching, school lunches ebook, advocacy for toxic-free living, and her Food as Medicine digital package. She steadfastly continues her mission to inspire others to lead a more conscious and nourishing, low-tox life.

She lives by the beach in Bronte, Sydney, with her two grown-up children, and remains deeply passionate about ancestral nutrition, clean living, and supporting others on their health and wellness journey.

  3. All products are handcrafted using traditional preparation techniques, predominantly made onsite at Broth Bar & Larder in Bronte, NSW.

  4. Every item is free from refined sugar, gluten, industrial seed oils, and tap water. Most products are also dairy-free, with the exception of pâté and select soups.

  5. All offerings reflect the core nutritional philosophy of Star Anise Organic: blending ancestral wisdom with modern science to create clean, ethically sourced, and properly prepared food that heals, nourishes, satisfies, and delights.
